this pic shows a little bit the automatic tile recognition system I’ve made for the squad shooter.. basically, the level design is a simple 64×32 image, and everything else is interpreted by the system- corner pieces, t-pieces, etc
the point of all this is that level design becomes really really quick, and there is no feeling whatsoever of lost work when redesigning an entire area. It’s been a bit tricky (for me) to set up, but I’m sure it’s going to pay for itself in terms of speed and number of changes that can be made
